I read Neuromancer by William Gibson, published in 1984, on the recommendation of Kristen Hewell Garrett from a while back. I went into it without much background and was floored by its visionary take on a potential cyberpunk future.

The novel follows Case, a down-and-out hacker, hired for a high-stakes mission in a dystopian world where cyberspace—a virtual "matrix"—blends data, artificial intelligence, and human consciousness. The standout for me was the intense depiction of AIs battling each other; artificial intelligence, corporate control, human-machine integration, and the weaponisation of AI (think modern drones) were groundbreaking in 1984 but feel eerily relevant today.

The read is dense and gritty and can be a bit challenging to dive into, but I will highly recommend it!
